We thought the park would be empty but was pleasantly surprised that it was still full of people but not unbearable. Our kids are at a private school so our holidays are longer than the government schools, so we visited the water park when the local schools were already back. Over April, the park opens at 10am and the weather at this time of year is still perfect for swimming. Staying in Port Edward had much cheaper options. We stayed in Port Edward which is just a very short drive to Wild Waves instead of staying at the Wild Coast Sun itself because of cost. The drive from Durban to Wild Waves is approximately 2 hours long, but 30 minutes outside Durban is a small town called Amanzimtoti which has an incredible shopping mall called Galleria which is a worthwhile stop. In the days preceding our visit to Wild Waves, we stayed in Durban. We did a self Drive holiday in the KZN area.
